The winter season is upon us and here at Panache we’ve been thinking about style icons and fashion from our favourite Christmas films. There have been many classic looks from films over the years, from Marilyn Monroe’s iconic white dress to Audrey Hepburn’s timeless black number. We love to emulate the looks of the stars and use their iconic styles to inspire our own wardrobes. So with Christmas around the corner, we’re taking a look at some of our favourite Christmas movies and delving into some of our favourite classic ensembles from the festive films.

A true classic Christmas movie and perhaps one of the most iconic Christmas films to date, is White Christmas.

ThisRosemary Clooney 1950’s film showcases a plethora of styles, especially covering all things glitz and glam. In the scene where Rosemary Clooney sings ‘Love, you didn’t do right by me’, Rosemary wears a floor length black gown with a long exaggerated train, which clinches in at the waist. This classic design is still a key piece for those looking for extravagant evening wear or just an all-out show-stopping dress.  In the recent 2012 X Factor final, we saw Nicole Scherzinger waltz on stage wearing a similar number, a skin-tight fishtail gown which featured a more structured train; a fine example of how 40s and 50s inspired fashion still lives on today.

One of our all-time favourite Christmas films is Miracle on 34th Street (the 1947 version).  The family favourite, which was remade in 1994, shows the cast wearing traditional 40s/50s fashion, with long sleeved dresses, buttoned up blouses and detailed collars. An ever elegant style, the long sleeved dress still holds a firm place in our own dress collections 50 years later, and there’s no doubt this classic ensemble will remain a timeless outfit for many years to come.

Buttoned up blouses and detailed collars have also been a main feature on the high street, with fashionista’s across the globe adorning embellished collars and early 50s inspired cuts.
