Awards season is well and truly upon us, and the glitz and glamour is infectious. We couldn’t have been more pleased to see the lovely Adele awarded a Golden Globe for ‘Best Original Song’, and after gluing ourselves to the TV every Sunday night, we weren’t surprised to see Damian Lewis scoop an award for Homeland. However, as much as we beam with pride when our favourite people and films are recognised by the academy, we’re really in it for the fashion. As always, there are those who got it very right, and those who got it very wrong. We don’t like to dwell on the negatives, so here are our picks of the best Golden Globes gowns.

Anne Hathaway, who is bound to clean up during this awards season for her role in Les Mis, kept it simple with a new pixie haircut and effortlessly glamorous snow-white Chanel number encrusted with glittering crystals. We were also blown away by Taylor Swift’s plum Donna Karen dress, with a dramatic train and low cut back. Jennifer Lawrence stole the show in a strapless Dior Couture gown, a true princess dress – we particularly loved the metallic belt which accentuated her tiny waist. Emily Blunt was also stunning in a gold Michael Kors number; the demure dress was beautifully simple, and the cut-outs at the waist added interest to an otherwise plain shape.

Cut-outs and keyholes were the stand out trend from the Golden Globes 2013, with other celebs like Kate Hudson and Kristen Wiig using the style to stellar effect. The flash of skin usually hidden away is a simple and effective way to make an otherwise conservative dress sexier, without sacrificing the glamour. Another key trend was the thigh-high split which featured time and again in the gowns of our favourite stars. Miranda Kerr’s crimson number, which also featured a plunging neckline, was the most dramatic, closely followed by Eva Longoria’s black Pucci gown. Other celebrities working the look included Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Halle Berry and Lea Michele in a white Elie Saab dress.

This is just the start of the awards season, and we can’t wait to see what the red carpet has to offer at the Oscars and the BAFTAs, to name but a few. Get your popcorn ready!
