The excitement is over for another year, and the fash pack have migrated overseas to enjoy the delights of Milan and Paris. That’s right, London Fashion Week came and went, leaving us with a flurry of trends to look forward to next season. We might be biased, but London Fashion Week stands out amongst its contemporaries for the eclectic mix of shows, the incredible street style and the opportunity for both heritage brands and emerging talent to showcase their wares for the upcoming season. We’ve put together a list of our favourite trends from London Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2014 to help us through the long cold winter…
Pink
Pink has been hailed as the surprise shade of the winter season, with pink coats flying off the shelves across the country, and fashionistas snapping up every hue of pink, eager to embrace this trend. There’s no stopping the fashion world’s love for all things pink, it seems, as almost every designer at LFW sent pink garments up the catwalk. Burberry and House of Holland were particularly notable examples, but from bubblegum to fuchsia, there really is a pink out there for everyone.
1970’s
Over the past few years we’ve seen a resurgence of leggings, neon and now grunge and tartan as we relived the 80’s and 90’s. From the looks of the shows at LFW this past week, it seems that the 1970’s are finally getting their turn in the spotlight; Orla Kiely showed girl-scout-inspired dresses at her show, Matthew Williamson opted for 70’s-inspired floral dresses whilst Topshop went all out, as ever. Will we all be decked in fringe and flares this time next year? Only time will tell.
3D Florals
Florals in spring are hardly a shock but this year designers have embraced the trend in a whole new way, using 3D techniques to create bold, textured garments that elevate florals from stuffy garden parties into fashion-forward must-haves.
That’s not all, of course; some of the most controversial trends from this year – the crop top and the mullet dress – show no sign of abating any time soon. Head-to-toe pastels will also be in vogue, and we’re particularly excited about the return of the ever-so-flattering full skirt to our wardrobes.
