We all know how it can feel in January when the weather is miserable and it’s a long way off until pay day. It doesn’t help when we see celebs sunning themselves in Barbados and far flung places that feel so out of reach to many of us.

Well, here at Panache, we have decided to look for treats to put a smile back on our faces a little closer to home, and on a much smaller budget too, to help us get through the long winter months.

Here is our round-up of some of the best winter breaks the UK has to offer for all tastes…

City break:

The historic city of York makes for an ideal short winter break in the UK as it has so much to offer. Culture, shopping, food, sightseeing and family friendly attractions make York one of the most visited cities throughout the year in the UK. Why not try a midnight ghost walk or a tour around some of York’s most visited spots such as Clifford’s Tower and York Minster? All of which look magical in the snow, adding to the atmosphere that is uniquely York.

Rural retreat:

The Yorkshire Dales make for the perfect winter retreat destination for snowy walks across peaks and valleys and nights in besides roaring log fires. There is a fantastic selection of cottages and hotels in the area, so there is something for every budget. The idyllic villages of Grassington, Bedale and Hawes are filled with charm and character, and Herriot Country is even more spectacular in the winter.

Spa haven:

Dormy House Spa in the Cotswolds has recently been voted the ‘Best Spa Hotel’ by boutique hotel booking service Mr & Mrs Smith and also ‘Best Destination Hotel’ by Conde Nast. This luxury hotel and spa is the perfect place to experience a little bit of heavenly indulgence, and as it’s in such a beautiful part of the country, it would be rude not to make a weekend out of it.

Coastal hideaway:

Saint Ives in Cornwall is as lovely in the winter as it is in the summer, only much quieter. There’s definitely something about the sea air that revives and refreshes, and with such pretty surroundings, you can’t help but feel better and shake off those January blues. And after a day of fresh air and beautiful scenery, what better way to spend the evening than in a cosy pub or restaurant with friends and family.
