Picking the right dress for a special occasion is not always easy and it becomes even more of a challenge when you have to consider a dress code. If you are planning a trip to Royal Ascot next month there are a few rules and regulations to observe before you get into the Royal Enclosure.

Here are a few style solutions to make sure you feel confident and appropriately dressed for the races:

Ascot decrees that dresses must fall on the knee or below and this is a good rule to observe for other races too. An elegant option is Gemma in Navy which is a beautiful sports luxe inspired dress and has been spotted on the beautiful Suki Waterhouse. In a classic navy and white, the faux leather ribbons create shape and the texture of the skirt creates volume. Go matching and try Cleo by Panache’s Maddie Bra and Shorts set in blue to go with it.

If you prefer a little colour, Rainbow Dress is a flirty V-neck dress with splashes of vibrant shades to make sure you stand out from the crowd. I design a lot of Bernshaw’s Dresses so that they can be worn with bras and this one would look perfect with a plunging bra like Porcelain or with a splash of colour from Fontaine in Coral.

The other rule to remember for Ascot is that straps must be one inch or greater in thickness. A chic fitted dress can be the perfect option. Look to Miranda and Nula in a soft coffee and cream lace fabric and will hug your curves perfectly. A matching jacket is a great option to cover up for chilly Spring days with the unpredictable British weather.

I also love Cecile and Edna, a soft gold and peach option which also comes with a matching jacket. Both of these styles would look super glamorous with the Serenity Padded Basque to add shape and contouring.

The final thing to remember is that you have to wear a hat or a fascinator with a 4 inch diameter for the Royal Enclosure so have fun choosing accessorising your dress and have fun at the races!
