Fashion on the slopes

Many of us can’t wait to see the back of cold snaps and dark mornings, but there are some avid thrill-seekers preparing to jet off and carve up slopes in a bid to squeeze every last snowflake out of their winter calendar. It’s ski season. The chalet’s are booked, the gluhwein’s flowing, and you have the interesting challenge of cramming around 20kg of ski clothing into just 15kg worth of baggage allowance.

Any skier will appreciate that the performance and comfort offered up by our ski wardrobe is vital to enjoying a pleasurable day on the slopes, and as Panache knows, you also want to own that ice catwalk! Wearers of the eighties inspired fluorescent jumpsuit might find themselves amongst the minority this season as they stride toward the gondola.

It seems some of the big fashion names are vying for our attention by introducing a sleek and understated selection of jacket and pant combinations. Cooler, metallic and more muted tones have been introduced with the addition of fur trims to add a sense of luxurious style, which unlike the snowfall has been a little light on the ground until recently. As well as looking good we want you to feel good too.

We know that hurtling along the snow is a thrill like no other, and the best support for any kind of sport is a good sports bra. This stylish piece doesn’t just squash you up against your rib cage, instead it individually supports both breasts reducing the amount of bounce incurring from skiing that can damage the coopers ligament causing sagging.

Looking and feeling great can make all the difference when you’re on the slopes. Some of the more typical ski accessories have been left undisputed and unscathed in the transition from garish to glamorous and our favourite is the headband. Choose one in fur or chunky knit and give a respectful nod to the heritage of ski fashion.
