Anja Lovén
Anja Lovén is a Danish aid worker who left her job in retail in 2011 to spend three months as a relief worker in Africa. She witnessed such poverty and hunger that she decided to dedicate her life to supporting the world’s poorest children.
In 2013 Anja sold everything she owned in Denmark to move to Nigeria and set up the African Children’s Aid Education and Development Foundation. She and her husband David run a home for children in the southern state of Akwa Ibom, caring for children who are abandoned by their families after being accused of witchcraft, often when they are only two or three years old. As well as rescuing abandoned children and restoring them to health, Anja and David work to provide education for Nigerian children, believing strongly that every child has the right to food and education, and to live a dignified life.
