This week the bright and the beautiful descend upon New York to take in the sights, as over 280 designers showcase their wares at over 100 shows. New York Fashion Week is now upon us, and Autumn/Winter trends are being set before our very eyes. With the snow beginning to fall outside, designers are sending models down the catwalk in weather-appropriate furs, chunky jackets and mountains of layers – it seems the key trend at New York Fashion Week 2013 is ‘anything goes’.
From embroidery to fur, lingerie-inspired pieces to lizard skin boots – the Fall trend we’re loving the most already is ‘freedom’; surely that’s what fashion’s all about after all? Ladylike silhouettes are set to keep their place in our wardrobes, but the look is supposed to be an easy one – pleated skirts and loose jumpers rather than tight pencil dresses and stilettos. Grunge is also making a comeback, so expect to see far more camouflage prints, although with a colour update to keep the look fresh.
Inspiration was clearly drawn from the Men’s Collections, shown previously in the year, with some designers punctuating their colour palettes with orange. Seasonal greens, berry tones and regal blue also made standout appearances, breaking up the usual muted tones of an autumn wardrobe.
New York Fashion Week is just the start of a month full of fashion shows across the world, but there’s no denying that they set the stage for big things to come. With fashion giants Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Michael Kors, Vera Wang and Zac Posen, to name but a few, due later in the week, there’s still time for some stand out fashion trends to be created. We’re excited already.
