Despite enjoying the best summer we’ve had in years, many of us are rather excited about donning our favourite knits. It’s a feeling like no other, cosying up in a large, soft creation. Not only do chunky cardigans and jumpers keep you warm, but you can enjoy a winter-warming curry and no one would be any the wiser. Fantastic.
For autumn/winter 2013-14, there are three key looks to try. First up, think colour. Bright and beautiful layering is a hot trend for the upcoming months – not only does it steer you away from a full-on dark outfit, but it means you can have fun when you get dressed in the morning. Arm yourself with your usual work wear – think black trousers, smart heels, a thick coat to keep you warm… – but throw in a bright yellow sweater to mix things up. If you’re not into bold you could, alternatively, embrace this season’s biggest colour, that of pale pink. Include flourishes of the muted shade into your look for absolute femininity.
A style of knit that’ll never fail you is of the cable variety. Forever flattering and offering an I-know-what-I’m-doing aesthetic, a cable knit jumper or cardigan is a must-have for your autumn/winter 2013-14 wardrobe. There are so many options with this look too. Wear a long cable knit cardigan with anything and everything. Opt for the cropped jumper variety if you like to layer like a pro. Alternatively, experiment with asymmetrical hems and designs featuring on-trend colour blocking. Luckily, cable knitwear goes best with denim so it’s super easy to style.
Finally, we’ve got our favourite wintry look which incorporates an oversized jumper that could fit two of you inside. Pure bliss. Ensure it’s rich in colour and pattern – we especially love vintage-inspired designs or Fair Isle patterns. Wear one with skinny trousers to ensure you’re presenting a great silhouette or, alternatively, opt for a fitted skirt, tapered jeans or leggings. Winter chic at its best!
