We’re used to hearing in the fashion press about all the latest collaborations between celebrities and high street chains, or haute couture designers and everyday shops. Some of them have been incredibly successful – remember the stampede to H&M when Versace brought out their collaboration? Or the popularity of celebrity ranges with brands like Littlewoods and Marks and Spencer?
Some celebrities who decide to strike out into the world of fashion aren’t always successful, however. Kanye West didn’t fare so well in the last round of fashion shows, and even high street collaborations don’t always work – Geri Haliwell’s work with Next was a bit of a damp squib. On the other hand, Victoria Beckham’s womenswear ranges have become the next big thing, with fashion editors positively drooling over each piece she brings out.
It seems like another celebrity will be following in Beckham’s footsteps, as Madonna’s best-selling footwear collection Truth Or Dare has been heralded as one of the most popular pop-up shops in London retailer Selfridges.
With the mini-concession open for just over a week, some of Madonna’s shoe styles have already sold out, including the fashion forward Cedia Brogue, in a slick patent leather with rounded silver studs covering sections of the shoe.
Unlike some other celebrity fashion brands, Truth Or Dare is surprisingly affordable. Although it might not be an everyday purchase at around £100 for a pair of the stylish shoes, comparative to high-end designer brands – including those stocked in Selfridges – this is a relatively inexpensive purchase for a piece of celebrity-endorsed fashion.
